| Description |
Nederlands: Repronegatief. De productie van kopra, afkomstig van de kokospalm, nam flink toe met de komst van de moderne oliefabriek rond 1910. Hoewel kopra vooral een bevolkingsproduct is werd het ook op Westerse ondernemingen geteeld. In 1923 waren er 529 Europese kokosondernemingen in bedrijf, waarvan er 302 uitsluitend met klapperbomen beplant waren. Op Sumatra waren de meeste ondernemingen te vinden in het Gouvernement Sumatra's Oostkust en in de Residentie Riouw en Onderhorigheden. Daar kwam overigens ook de meeste Sumatraanse bevolkingskopra vandaan. De export van kopra zou zelfs tijdens de Depressie van de jaren dertig in omvang blijven toenemen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
