Nederlands: Repronegatief. De rijkdom aan vis en andere zeedieren van de wateren van de Archipel was bekend en ook de Kleine Soenda Eilanden leverden veel vissers op. Daar kwamen de Badjo's (of Badjau) nog eens bij, een groep 'zigeuners van de zee' die ook elders in de Archipel half op land en half op hun boten leefden. Daarenboven woonden er op de eilandjes tussen Flores en Timor lokale vissers die in hun kleine bootjes achter walvissen, dolfijnen en grote roggen aangingen (en dat nog steeds doen). In de 19e eeuw waren er in het oosten van de Archipel ook Amerikaanse walvisvaarders te vinden, maar geen Nederlandse. (P. Boomgaard, 2001). Soembawa, visserskampong met prauwen van de Badjo's |
