Nederlands: Foto. Celebes had een net van redelijk onderhouden paden en wegen dat overwegend door voetgangers gebruikt werd. Daarnaast werden er echter ook dieren gebruikt voor het transport van personen en goederen. Hierbij speelden vooral paarden een grote rol. Men onderscheidde als een apart paardenras het Makassaarse paard. Dat had zijn bestaan te danken aan de vorsten van Zuidwest-Celebes (Bone, Goa), die paarden nodig hadden voor de hertenjacht. Paarden werden bereden (ondermeer als 'dienstpaard'), fungeerden als trekdier voor wagens en karren en werden tevens als lastdier (draagpaard) gebruikt. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
