L'Istituto Tecnico Statale "Buonarroti" nacque nel 1963 come Istituto Tecnico per Geometri "Buonarroti". Grande fu l'attenzione del preside prof. Michele Scaravilli sin dalla istituzione per dotare la scuola di apparati di calcolo scientifico, di apparati e macchine per l'ufficio (macchine per scrivere e calcolatrici da tavolo) e di supporti multimediali alla didattica (cineproiettori, audio registratori-riproduttori a nastro, fonoriproduttori, radio, televisori, etc.).
