Summary[edit]

Description
English: Carhullan Farm above Cawdale the site appears to have an interesting history. The origins of the name are not clear but could relate to a fortified or stockaded manor house. Quoted as 'Kerholand' c.1336. Carhullan has been cited in various arguments relating to British- Anglian relations. The Cumbric element in the name may be evidence of a 10th Century British resurgance against the Angles which moved southwards from Strathclyde and had some influence in the northern Lakes. (from Whaley 2006).
