In 1846, Sørensen was given permission to travel with the Danish frigate Gefion. One of the stops was at Madeira, as described in the book Den Danske Marine 1814-1848, Bind III (The Danish Navy 1814-1848, Vol. III), by J.H. Schultz, Copenhagen 1950, page 227-232. marinehist.dk
