| Description |
English: The Casa Montserrat was designed by the architect Manual Sayrach i Carreras. Located carrer Enric Granados, in Barcelona's Eixample**, it was constructed in 1926. The outside, especially the roof with its pinnacle and its organic lines, cannot conceal the influence of Gaudi and his Pedrera ***. The entrance hall*** is amazing and exquisite! The decor is inspired by the vegetable, marine and spider world, and even suggests skeletons (notably the arcades before the elevator**, which, with its twiddly lines, suggests butterfly wings). A theatrical and exuberant display typical of the best Catalan modernism, but rather surprising for the time, 1926, i.e. more than 12 years after the death of the Art Nouveau in Belgium. |
