c/n 30238 Built 1953 In 1964, Geraldine ‘Jerrie’ Mock used this aircraft to become the first woman to fly around the world. She departed from Columbus, Ohio, on 19th March and arrived back there 29 days, 11 hours and 59 minutes later, having flown 23,103 miles. The flight set seven records, including being the first woman to fly across both Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and a ‘round-the-world’ speed record for aircraft weighing less than 3,585 pounds. The ‘Spirit of Columbus’ was donated to the Smithsonian Institute by Cessna in 1975 and is seen on display at the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center as part of the National Air and Space Museum.
