Summary[edit]

Description

Ceramic ballplayer figurine from the early Classic Veracruz culture. In his right hand, he holds a manopla, or handstone, used to strike the ball. 250-400 AD. This figurine is a tripod, with a third support (not visible in this photo) allowing the figurine to stand upright. The figurine also functions as a whistle.

According to the museum placard, the figurine "appears to be wearing a double buttocks belt around his waist and a necklace of jawbones of defeated rivals".
