Das viergeteilte Schild zeigt links oben in Blau ein goldenes, aus der Teilungslinie wachsendes Kleeblattkreuz (Teil des Bistumswappens der Diözese Linz), rechts oben in Rot das Logo der Salesianer Don Boscos, Provinz Österreich, aus der Bischof Ludwig hervorgegangen ist, links unten in Rot zwei silberne Pfähle (Teil des Diözesanwappens und Landesfarben Oberösterreichs), rechts unten auf schwarzem Grund (Hinweis auf den Familiennamen Schwarz) den weißen Unzialbuchstaben L (für Linz und Ludwig).

Darunter befindet sich der Wappenspruch „SERVITE DOMINO IN LAETITIA“ (Dienet dem Herrn in Freude! Psalm 100,2a).

Umrahmt wird das Wappen mit dem grünen Bischofshut und zwölf Quasten (12 Apostel, deren Nachfolger die Bischöfe sind).
