Summary[edit]

Description Local, state and federal officials stand near a new high water mark sign at Garcia Bend Park in Sacramento, Calif., Nov. 8, 2013. The sign marks the highest known elevation of the Sacramento River, and how high floodwater would’ve been in the park if the levee had failed. The event was hosted by the cities of Sacramento and Roseville to increase flood awareness and preparedness in the region. Speakers at the event included (from left) City of Sacramento Councilmember Darrell Fong; Central Valley Flood Protection Board President Bill Edgar; California Department of Water Resources Division of Flood Management Chief Keith Swanson; U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui representing California's 6th Congressional District; Federal Emergency Management Agency FEMA Region IX Regional Administrator Nancy Ward; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District’s Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management Tambour Eller; and City of Roseville Vice Mayor Carol Garcia.
