Object history
Deutsch: Die Siedlung entstand im Enztal unterhalb der „neuen Burg", die von den Grafen von Vaihingen wohl im 12. Jahrhundert erbaut worden war und von der sich der Ortsname ableitet. Der Ort wurde im 14. Jahrhundert von den Grafen von Württemberg, an die die Herrschaft Neuenbürg 1315/20 gefallen war, zur Stadt erhoben. Auf die Burg und damit auch auf den Ortsnamen bezieht sich wahrscheinlich das Turmsymbol, das die Siegel und das Wappen der Stadt ziert. Das erste Siegel dürfte um 1400 gestochen worden sein, der älteste Abdruck davon liegt von 1490 vor. Die älteste Wappendarstellung aus dem Jahre 1535 bringt den Turm rot, spätere (unter anderem Siebmacher 1605) silbern in blauem Feld. Dementsprechend waren die Stadtfarben Blau-Rot. 1956 beschloss der Gemeinderat im Einvernehmen mit der Archivdirektion Stuttgart die Änderung der Tingierung des Wappens gemäß der heraldischen Farbregel. Das Innenministerium nahm am 18. Februar 1958 von der Neufestsetzung der heute gültigen Farben von Wappen und Flagge Kenntnis.
