Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Design for the monument to perpetrate the fame of British artists of 1828." Watercolour with pan and brown ink by James Prinsep, philologist, and member of the Anglo-Indian Prinsep family descended from John Prinsep. The monument in the drawing consists of a column inscribed with the names of British artists. Prinsep's watercolour was likely made as the intended frontispiece of a volume of 100 such illustrations by leading British artists and assembled by the artist George Fennel Robson, on a commission by Mrs. George Haldimand, the wife of a prominent financier and sister of James Prinsep. The album remained intact until 1980, and within it were drawings and works of art by those named on the column of the album, including J.M.W. Turner, David Cox and Peter De Wint.[1]
