  • Significance: It is located in the original north wing of the U.S. Capitol. Benjamin H. Latrobe designed the semi-domed, semi-circular space, which was originally constructed in 1809-1810, and reconstructed in 1815-1819 after British troops set fire to the Capitol in 1814. Latrobe's original design for the reconstructed Senate Chamber involved enlarging it to a diameter of 75', and replacing the original brick dome with a larger one...
