  • Significance: Clark Hall is located on the historically black campus of Hampton University. From its inception in 1868, the Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute, founded by Brigadier General Samuel Chapman Armstrong, the school was established to train selected young men and women to "go out and teach people," and to build a viable industrial system on the strength of self sufficiency, intelligent labor, and solid moral character.
