English: Horiztontal rectangle. A) In the center is an octagon with two victories crowning a panoply. Caption written above with pencil: Troffeo Romolo." Laterally are rows of three hexagons. At left, top: the birth of Romulus and Remus. The mother sits with the twins on her lap and discourses with a warrior, caption: Nascita di Remo e Romolo. Center: Faustulus finds the twins. They are being nursed by a she-wolf. At right, the river-god, Tiber. Bottom, Romulus and Remus are brought before Numitor. Soldiers bring the fettered twins. The king is enthroned at right (with captions). Right row, top: Romulus traces out the form of Rome. He directs two bulls drawing a plough (with caption). Center: the rape of the Sabine maidens. Two pairs are shown; an alter at right. Bottom: Romulus carries a panoply, accompanied by soldiers. Reverse: B) A circle is divided into eight segments, each showing two putti with arms. |
