English: evening dress, two-piece- "Mauve brocade two-piece dress beaded on the bodice and skirt with white bugles, beads and pearls, made for Emily Roach for a reception at Government House. It was worn with the beading unfinished and then completed afterwards. Ref's- 'English Women's Clothing in the 19th Cent', page 348 - sleeve, 'Handbook of English Costume', page 547 - skirt." (col.card) “MAUVE SILK BALL DRESS two piece in mauve silk damask with light pattern of carnation spray – short bodice - hooked opening at back – wide décolleté neck short cut away sleeves and bars over shoulder line all heavily decorated with appliqué of white and pearl glass beads and bead tassels over upper arms. Gored skirt in eight panels – two back panels have heavy pleat at centre back and small pad below waistline – centre front panel has beaded decoration as above – very full hem line – small train.”
