English: Melting ice in the Arctic is increasing the risk of forest fires in western North America. White sheets of ice reflect sunlight back into space. When these decrease, the heat remains in the air layers and favors hot, dry weather.
Deutsch: Schmelzendes Eis in der Arktis sorgt für eine steigende Waldbrandgefahr im Westen Nordamerikas. Weiße Eisflächen reflektieren Sonnenlicht zurück ins All. Verringern sich diese, bleibt die Wärme in den Luftschichten und begünstigt heißes, trockenes Wetter. |
