Summary[edit]
DescriptionEvanton Airfield - geograph.org.uk - 96495.jpg |
English: Evanton Airfield. Evanton airfield (originally known as Novar) was originally developed for use by the Navy and opened in 1922. The Naval aircraft were serviced by RAF personnel and a full RAF station, RAF Evanton, was opened in 1937. The RAF and Navy continued to share the airfield through the War. The Navy retook overall control of the station, as HMS Fieldfare, in 1944. It was closed in 1948. The runways and many original buildings, including hangars and married quarters, still exist and the airfield is now an industrial estate. |
