Motivbeskrivning: Förtoningsbok. Texten beskriver hur man ska segla och dessutom finns många illustrationer över kustlinjer (förtoningar) och hamninlopp. Ibland syns byggnader och fartyg som ligger ute på redden.

Historik: Förtoningsbok av sjökapten Mathias Holmers. Mathias Holmers (1712-1789) hade olika befattningar på Ostindiefarare som seglade från Göteborg till Kina. Resorna tog mellan ett och ett halvt och tre år, fram och tillbaka. Museet har många av hans efterlämnade handlingar, bland annat den här förtoningsboken där han tecknat, målat och skrivit om de kuster han passerade under sina resor på 1740- och 1750-talen. En förtoning är en bild av en kust så som den ser ut när man närmar sig från havet och var en hjälp vid navigering." (Text av Eva Hult ur Sjöhistoriska museets årsbok "100 TING 2010-2011".)"
