Summary[edit]

Description Ryan FR-1 Fireballs of fighter squadron VF-1E Firebirds assigned to the escort carrier USS Badoeng Strait (CVE-116) in 1947. The Ryan FR Fireball was a composite propeller and jet powered aircraft designed for the United States Navy during the Second World War. Note that the FR-1s are flying on jet power only with propeller engines turned off. Part of a NATC aircraft (C-47?) is visible in the foreground.
