Summary[edit]

Description
English: Station destroyed by the Germans, Valenciennes, France, 1918. The station at Valenciennes after it had been destroyed by the retreating German army. The tracks are flooded and covered with rubble and the main station building has buckled. It appears to have been a typical late nineteenth- or early twentieth-century station building constructed with a lot of glass and iron.

The Canadian Corps captured Valenciennes on November 2, 1918 as part of the Cambrai offensive, a final push which ended in Mons just before the Armistice.
[Original reads: 'The flooded station at Valenciennes; the enemy fired mines and destroyed the station when they found they could not hold the town against the Canadians.']
