| Description |
English: Foot and Mouth memorial, Greenwich This memorial is in a private riverside garden on Ballast Quay near the Cutty Sark pub. The inscription on the mock tombstone reads "In memory of the uncounted millions of animals who died, not of foot and mouth but of the cure for foot and mouth". The reference is to an epidemic of this disease among the cattle and sheep of England in 2001/2, in which many herds and flocks were culled "on suspicion", only to be found in post-mortems to be disease-free. |
