Notes
  • Significance: Battery Duane was the first of twelve batteries constructed at Fort Wadsworth during the reconstruction of U.S. seacoast defenses, known as the Endicott program, between 1890 and ca. 1905. Built to mount five 8-inch breech-loading rifles on disappearing carriages, Battery Duane is significant as an early example of Endicott-era designs generated and built by the U.S. Army Engineer Department.
