Quadro que retrata a transição do Império para a República, registrando a assinatura do primeiro Projeto da Constituição Republicana de 1890 exposto no museu do Senado Federal. A pintura possui moldura de madeira nobre (cedro) e auto-relevo em gesso e folheado a ouro. Em 1891, o Brasil se tornaria República, com a assinatura da Constituição Republicana. O autor do quadro é o espanhol Gustavo Hastoy. Sentado à direita do Marechal Deodoro da Fonseca, o primeiro Presidente da República, está o Marechal Floriano Peixoto; atrás da criança, encontra-se Rui Barbosa. A criança é Mário Hermes da Fonseca, aparentado do Presidente Marechal Deodoro da Fonseca.
