| Description |
English: Foundry Cottages, Tyne Green Road According to the Hexham Local History Society leaflet 'Industrial Area and Tyne Green', the area behind these cottages was "the yard of the former Hexham Iron Works ... (most of the works themselves have disappeared). It [the works] is reputed to have started in 1683. In the 19th century, ironstone was smelted on the site. Late in the century it produced fireplaces. In the 20th century, the works had a chequered history, eventually closing down in 1969.". |
