Notes
English: It is author's own replica of the signed and dated 1872 (sic!) painting offered in April 2001 at Vienna auction house "Dorotheum". Although unsigned, this is an absolutely authentic work of the famous Austrian portrait painter Friedrich von Amerling. Quote from a monography of Gunther Probst "Friedrich von Amerling. Der Altmeister der Wiener Portraitmalerei", p. 164: "In 1872 Amerling made a trip to Upper Italy together with her and her husband. After several years apart Amerling by chance met Maria, who was already divorced, again". Amerling married her in 1881, and around that time our portrait might have been created.
