Call Number: Ms.A.9.2 v.9 n.5 Format: Autograph Letter Signed Extent: 4 p., 8 1/8 x 6 1/2 in. Creator: Weston, Anne Warren, 1812-1890 Date of creation: 1837-01-06 Place of creation: [Boston, MA] Recipient: Weston, Deborah, 1814-1889 Place of receipt: New Bedford, MA BPL department: Rare Books Transcription: Ange Ammidon has “The Slave” now, but I shall get it to send to you tomorrow. As to what Hildreth is doing I cannot say. Sarah Ann says she asked him expressly “how he was getting his living” & he told her as expressly that “he would not tell.” He is staying at Gloucester now with his married sister with whom his mother lives. I dare say he is writing. I believe that Archy is having a good sales. Stanton’s behavior while in town rather mortified Chauncy Pl. At the Fair Mary bought a purse for him, which she deputed Ann to present. She did so & he asked her what the price of it was offering to pay her. When Mary afterwards upbraided him for this, he exclaimed that he did not know what to say. – I have begun this in order to have a little done before this evening when I will finish it, but as probably I shall have nothing very special to tell you, & as I have just sent you a long letter you will not expect much. Saturday 7. Dear D. I write a line because such a little bit of a letter ought to be filled up, but I have no news to tell you. I am considerably better, that is, my cough is much lessened. I do not dare however to go out. Sarah Ann came in town this morning. She sends her love. Her foot troubles her somewhat now. I have got the Slave & you will read it I suppose with great gusto. Put the Bents up to reading it, but do
