| Description |
English: Looking at the front of the statue "Sacrifice", one of two statues that make up the work The Arts of War. The Arts of War are statues which adorn either side of the northeastern end of Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington, D.C., in the United States. They were designed by sculptor Leo Friedlander, and erected in 1951.
The statue features a nude male riding a stallion. The man holds an male infant in his arms. To the male's right, a woman (nude from the waist up) stands parallel to the horse, her right hand raised as if to caress the man's arm. The statue is intended to symbolize the sacrifices made during wartime. |
