Summary
[edit]The Galata Bridge (Turkish Galata Köprüsü) has a double leaf bascule section. It also carries a tram line. This photo is a detail of how the overhead lines are handled. The fixed portion of the bridge is on the right and the movable portion on the left. At the break point the normal wire rope conductor is replaced by rigid metal bars. The tips of these bars are offset to opposite sides and overlap so that the pantograph will make a continuous contact.
The most prominent building in the background is the Süleymaniye Mosque (Turkish Süleymaniye Camii).
