The Archiepiscopal Palace is on thenorth side of the Stefans-Platz. onthe corner of the Rothenthurm-Str.The court is adorned by a handsomefountain. The Thonefsche Haus standsopposite. The southern continuationof the Stefans-Platz is known as theStock-im-Eisen-Platz. The Graben, with its handsomeshops and stores, is the chief businessstreet in Vienna. It was the moat ofthe fortifications in the 12th century.The Trinity Column rises in the centreof the Graben. It was erected byorder of Emperor Leopold I. in com-memoration of the cessation of theplague in 1694. The Jungfernstrasse leads from theGraben to the Peters-Platz. Here isSt. Peters Church with its magnificentdome, built in 1702; restored in1839-1844; also recently.
