Summary[edit]

Description
English: Halsteads and Sugar Loaf Hill Halsteads or Hald Stede is derived from OE, and means a place of refuge. It is possible that this natural bowl in the hills was a good place to hide stock from Scottish raids in the middle ages. At the base of Sugar Loaf Hill there was an old rifle range, it is shown on maps dating from 1851 until 1914.
