Strength and lightness with a non-newtonian fluid

| Description |
English: The set of images show a non-newtonian fluid under variable stress. In non-newtonian fluids, viscosity varies with the stress. This means that the fluid behaves differently in case it is under low stress conditions or high stress conditions. In particular, in the set of images, a hand touching a non-newtonian fluid is shown. It is possible to see that, at the beginning, the fluid is under high stress conditions (because of the punch to the fluid) and it behaves like a solid. In the last images, the fluid is subject to a lower stress since the hand is entering slowly the fluid: in these last images, the fluid behaves as a fluid (in a while the hand is completely submerged).
Italiano: Nel set di immagini è possibile notare un fluido non newtoniano sottoposto a diversi livelli di stress. Nei fluidi non newtoniani la viscosità varia con la tensione a cui si sottopone il fluido. Questo significa che il fluido si comporta in modo differente in base alla tensione a cui è sottoposto. Nel set di immagini è possibile vedere inizialmente un non-newtoniano sottoposto ad un forte pugno da una mano. In questo momento si può vedere che il fluido si comporta come un solido perché sottoposto a forte tensione. Nella seconda parte del set di immagini invece la mano è inserita delicatamente nel fluido ed in questo caso essa riesce ad immergersi poiché il fluido si comporta come tale. |
