Hari Reddi and Charles Huggins and University of Chicago in 1972

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Charles B. Huggins (right), the William B. Ogden Distinguished Service Professor of Surgery at the University of Chicago. Dr. Huggins founded the university's Ben May Laboratory for Cancer Research, and was the co-winner in 1966 of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. He is pictured with Professor Hari Reddi (left). Together, by experimentation on laboratory rats, they created a process which changes soft tissue to cartilage and bone, and discovered an electrochemical method to switch the process on and off. The basic mechanism of tissue differentiation is central to understanding cancer, and this research was supported by the American Cancer Society, the Jane Coffin Childs Fund for Medical Research, and the National Cancer Institute, and conducted at the Ben May Laboratory.
