Summary[edit]
DescriptionHarter Fell - geograph.org.uk - 1718184.jpg |
English: Harter Fell The top of Harter Fell is a plateau just off, and fifty metres above, the Pennine Way as it crosses the ridge on its way from the reservoirs of Lunesdale to Middleton-in-Teesdale. This is open access land, so the only difficulty in visiting the triangulation pillar is finding a sensible way to get past the walls, made easier on this visit by the depth of snow retained either side. The summit is not much of a viewpoint for nearby scenery, as the break of slope at the edge of the fell blocks the view, but more distant points are readily picked out, such as the top of Hardberry Hill NY9328 seen to the right of the pillar to the north. Beyond, the watershed between Teesdale and Weardale rises to well over 600m and retains much more continuous snow cover. |
