Hexaplex trunculus is a medium-sized species of sea snail was found on the north part of Israeli coastal plain near Tel Shikmona

ארגמון קהה קוצים הוא חילזון ימי טורף ממשפחת הארגמוניים. החילזון חשוב מבחינה היסטורית והלכתית מכיוון ששימש להפקת הצבעים ארגמן ותכלת. בנוסף החילזון משמש למאכל באיטליה, ספרד, יוון ופורטוגל.

החילזון החי נמצא בחוף הים במישור החוף הצפוני מול תל שקמונה שנמצאו בהשרידי מבני תעשיה ששימוש כנראה ליצור צבע הארגמן מארגמונים
