A igrexa de Santiago é o templo coruñés principal e o máis antigo. Comezouse a construír no século XII, durante o reinado de Fernando II. No seu adro reuníase o concello desde o século XV. A planta orixinal contaba con tres naves, que foron reducidas a unha só, de estilo oxival, no século XV. A fachada principal é románica e sobresae do muro nun bloque. Na arquivolta central aparecen os vinte anciáns do Apocalipse cos seus instrumentos musicais escoitando ao Salvador. O tímpano está sostido por anxos e nel aparece Santiago a cabalo. Esta figura, e algunha outra, proceden doutra parte. Polo leste hai tres ábsidas románicas, divididas no exterior por columnas con capiteis vexetais; a da esquerda está seccionada por un esquinal da torre. A igrexa conta con tres portas, das que a do norte é a máis antiga. O tímpano está sostido por dúas mochetas con cabezas de bovinos e representa un año entre dous circos que sostén unha cruz coas patas. A porta sur tamén é románica e ábrese á sancristía. A torre é igualmente románica, aínda que houbo de ser reparada no 1607 a causa dalgunha explosión, xa que foi o polvorín da antiga cidade. Forma un curioso recuncho coa casa do Consulado na que é a rúa máis curta da Coruña, a da Reixa Dourada. Resaltan os canzorros que sosteñen o beiril do tellado e o rosetón no testeiro da nave.
