On the right a highway crosses a stonebridge in the shadow of bordering trees; towardthe foreground a river winds and disappears un-der the arch. To the left, in contrast with a deepshadow on the grass slopes, is a hillside in theglow of late afternoon. The steam from an ap-proaching railway train, which is almost hiddenby the foliage, gleams among the trees. Thereare pedestrians on the highway, peasants in thefields, and a flight of birds across the simple ex-panse of sky. Signed at the left, Francais, 1886. Height, 16y2 inches; lengthy 25% inches.

The foreground is all inshadow, and sheep, newly sheared, browse underlow trees beside a curving path. In the sunlit dis-tance are straw stacks, farm-houses, and the linesof enclosed fields, and far beyond is the bluestretch of the sea, with white sails and a peacefulsky. Signed at the left, R. W. Van Boskerck. Height, 19 inches; length, 29^ inches. LOUIS CABAT 66—LANDSCAPE n A winding country road, which crosses a shal-low brook in the foreground, leads away towardan avenue of great trees which extends far intothe distance.
