Day 3: camp at Rajung Karu nomad camp. Elevation approx 4925m* * note that the trekking map lists Rajung Karu as being at 4548m and that was also what the guiding company quoted us, but Google maps and my GPS both show that at the head of this valley where we actually camped we had slowly climbed again to above 4900m nearly the same as the pass. Given that is the same river you sleep beside both nights, it is obvious that night 3 must be higher as it flows down the valleys. Coming down off Horlam La you descend to the river and then slowly following it up to another nomad camp. In late August when we did this trek the nomadic families were currently here, where they will shift shortly down the valley reverse to our route. Huge herds of goats and sheep grazed the surrounding side valleys and the children were eager to see themselves in the camera viewfinders. |
