Description
English: On the occasion of International Day of Yoga at Kochi, a Yoga camp for Naval personnel, as well as their families, was conducted at Southern Naval Command (SNC) on 21 June 2017. Vice Admiral AR Karve, AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in- Chief, SNC also participated in the camp, which was attended by over 800 persons. A pledge “to make Yoga an Integral Part of Daily Life” was also taken on this occasion.

The renowned Yoga trainer Ms Nuthan from ‘Me Met Me’ Yoga Centre, Panampilly Nagar, Kochi conducted the Yoga Camp over two sessions; for persons below 40 years and above 40 years of one-hour duration each. During the camp, Naval personnel were introduced to various Asanas, Pranayams, conditioning practices and breathing exercises. The participants benefitted from the discourses on the virtues of Yoga, its integration into daily life to suit modern sociological needs and lifestyles for sustained good health and stress free life.

As a prelude to International Day of Yoga, a lecture on ‘Healthy Weight at any age, Perspectives on exercise, Diet and Mind Body connection’ was carried out by Meditation trainers from Heart Fullness Institute, Chennai for naval personnel on 19 & 20 Jun 2017. INS Dronacharya and Naval Armament Depot (NAD), Aluva also conducted similar yoga camps at Fort Kochi and Aluva respectively. All SNC ships, including those at sea and other outstation establishments, also conducted Yoga sessions unit wise.

The weekly regimen of Naval personnel at Southern Naval Command includes Yoga sessions at least two days in a week towards inculcating the practice of Yoga as a way of life. Apart from this, the naval fraternity continue participating in yoga camps, yoga sessions, lectures and awareness programmes throughout the year.
