The island of Ovalau is beautiful in every way, both as toits natural characteristics and its luxuriant and varied foliage.On one side, as we drove, we had the sea with its bewilderingrainbow hues, and on the other, appearing and disappearingamong the trees, Koro Korotuka Peak, another of thosestrange rocky prominences which I have never seen but inFiji. We stopped at a pretty village to rest the horse. Thewomen were all carrying about huge nets on long poles, andseemed to be in a state of expectancy; when suddenly thewhole surface of the sea became alive wdth leaping glitteringfish. There was a great stampede. The women flew off, andwere soon in the sea, gathered in groups of twos, and threes,manipulating the nets. They looked very picturesque andgraceful in their gay garments, with their brown arms wa\dngas they twisted and turned the long poles in the glitteringwater. The sun was setting as we drove back to our boat, andanother lovely picture had been added to memorys gallery.
