English: Fragments of Józef Beck speech to Sejm from May 5, 1939. Translation of the speach fragments:
  • Polish - German Treaty of 1934 was a treaty of mutual respect and good neighborliness, and as such has made a positive impact to the life of our country, to the life of Germany and throughout Europe. However at the moment, when tendency were revealed to interpret it as a restriction on the freedom of our politics, or as a ground to demand from us concepts which are unilateral and contrary to our vital interests, than it has lost its real character.
  • Peace is a precious and a desirable thing. Our generation, bloodied in wars, certainly deserves peace. But peace, like almost all things of this world, has its price, a high but a measurable one. We in Poland do not know the concept of peace at any price. There is only one thing in the lives of men, nations and countries that is without price. That thing is honor.

  • Układ polsko - niemiecki z 1934 r. był układem o wzajemnym szacunku i dobrym sąsiedztwie, i jako taki wniósł pozytywną wartość do życia naszego państwa, do życia Niemiec i do życia całej Europy. Z chwilą jednak, kiedy ujawniły się tendencje, ażeby interpretować go bądź to jako ograniczenie swobody naszej polityki, bądź to jako motyw do żądania od nas jednostronnych, a niezgodnych z naszymi żywotnymi interesami koncepcji stracił swój prawdziwy charakter.
  • Pokój jest rzeczą cenną i pożądaną. Nasza generacja, skrwawiona w wojnach, na pewno na pokój zasługuje. Ale pokój, jak prawie wszystkie sprawy tego świata ma swoją cenę, wysoką, ale wymierną. My w Polsce nie znamy pojęcia pokoju za wszelką cenę. Jest tylko jedna rzecz w życiu ludzi, narodów i państw, która jest bezcenną. Tą rzeczą jest honor.
