Notes
  • Significance: In the early 1830s, Judge Jacob Tysen constructed a new house on Staten Island, along Richmond Terrace, facing the Kill Van Kull and nest to Sailor's Snug Harbor, not far removed from its present location. Jacob Tysen, a descendent of Dutch settlers, was an influential citizen and held a number of public offices. After Jacob Tysen's death and the subsequent sale of the property by his heirs, the house was, in the 1870s, substantially extended. The house was acquired by Sailor's Snug Harbor in 1885...
