Nedersaksies: Jan (of Johan) van Galen (Essen, 1604/1605 - Livorno, 23 maart 1653) was een Nederlands vlootvoogd. Dus ziet men G A L E N in 't gedrang der
Britten woeden.
Zoo staat een Noordse Klip, in 't barnen van
de vloeden.
Hy strееft door moordgeweer, als of hy
door natuur
Tot heyl van Nederland, van yser,staal,
en vuur
In Spijt der wisse Dood, onsterflijk was geschapen,
Ееn Dapper Oorlogs-hooft, verstrekt een
Zeegbaar Wapen,
Zijn Scbeepskroon vol Laurier betaalden
hy met bloed,
Toen hem zijn been ontviel, ontviel de
Brit zijn moed;
Want hy wierd heet op wraak. Wie hart
heeft, mist geen Leden,
De tucht, beleid, en kracht, drie Zusters,
die zijn schreden,
Staag volgden, zijn met hem beroemt in
't Graf gegaan;
Het Graf zal vallen, maar zijn Krijgsroem eeuwig staan. |
