Summary[edit]

Description

Wrecked Japanese aircraft at Lae, New Guinea, in 1943. Visible on the right are two tails of Mitsubishi G4M Betty bombers.

Original caption: "Lae, New Guinea. A United States Army Air Force A-20 attack plane pilot swooped down to within sixty feet of the ground to get this aerial view of smashed enemy planes. More than fifty Japanese planes, destroyed by Allied bombing and strafing raids, littered the airfield after the Allied attack. In this photograph, showing a small section of the dump, are three smashed medium bombers and four, possibly five, Zeros that will never fly again."
