  • Significance: The pentagonal fort is the most important, least changed, surviving feature of the historic bombardment of Fort McHenry, September 13-14, 1814. The sally port, casemates, and guard rooms were built after the bombardment, and are interesting as functional adjuncts to the needs of a military installation.
