Summary[edit]

Description
English: The red monastery of Kagbeni sits at the very entrance to the “Forbidden Kingdom” of Mustang. It looks like a gate to this mysterious kingdom, its red colour marking also a change. From now on, the red colour will be dominant on the many gigantic cliffs as well as on most religious buildings like monastery and chortens. The legend tells it all began with a demon which destroyed a buddhist monastery in Tibet. Then Guru Rimpoche, who had brought Buddhism to Tibet, pursued the demon west, deep into Mustang. They fought, Guru Rimpoche killed the dragon and its blood formed many towering red cliffs across Mustang.
