English: Kaiserstraße and Kaiserplatz in Frankfurt am Main, around 1899. View to northeast to Roßmarkt and Hauptwache. The domed building in the background is Germania Builing, finished in 1888. Photograph cannot be not younger than 1900 as the horse trams were replaced by electric trams in this year. Therefore, taller street lamp masts were erected to hold the overhead wires.
Deutsch: Kaiserstraße und Kaiserplatz in Frankfurt am Main, um 1899. Blick nach Nordosten zum Roßmarkt und zur Hauptwache. Das Haus mit der Eckkuppel ist das 1888 errichtete Haus Germania. Das Bild kann spätestens 1900 entstanden sein, weil in diesem Jahr die Pferdebahn in der Kaiserstraße durch eine elektrische Straßenbahn mit Oberleitung ersetzt wurde und hierfür neue, höher Straßenlaternen aufgestellt wurden, die die Oberleitung hielten. |
