Summary[edit]

Description
English: Kirkburn Cross, Kirkburn, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
Stone monument outside Oak House on the north side of Main Street, Kirkburn. An elm tree was planted here in 1688 in the time of William of Orange, which grew to have a girth of about 27 feet before being felled by high winds in about 1907 (the tree that is, not William of Orange). The enormous tree was so well loved by the locals that they erected this cross as a memorial to it in 1910. In the back garden of Oak House, the spring head of Eastburn Beck is considered by many to be the source of the River Hull, so next time it floods in the city of Hull someone might want to call on the folks here and ask if they've left any taps running.
