Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Building at 7, Glavna Street in Zemun was built at the turn of the eighteenth century, in the style of the baroque with elements of classicism. It has a cellar, ground floor and first floor. The façades are symmetrically composed with uniform rhythm of the windows between lesenes. The spatial composition of the building is simple with characteristic steep roof. It has two wings and was built in adobe. The construction is partly vaulted and parted architrave. The ground floor was meant for commerce and the first floor for living quarters. The house belonged to the famous Stefanović-Vilovski family. At the end of the nineteenth century it housed the print-shop of Jovan Karamata that printed important literary works of national cultural value. For a certain period of time it also housed hotel “Evropa”. Apart from its architectural characteristics that bring it among the most significant examples of bourgeois architecture, the house has ambient and urban values as a corner building that links a part of the street grid from the eighteenth century.
